Welcome to the Etter-Markins Memorial Ride for Special Olympics.

This ride started in 1999 and was originally hosted by the Brown County Sheriffs Department. Our Chapter was always an integral part of this ride. In 2002, Randy Lind and Mike Lauder, both of whom work for the Brown County Sheriff's Department and are important members of our Chapter, set up the ride. It was decided our chapter would be the primary sponsor as our members have always assisted in not only preparing the ride, but making sure it went smoothly.

Our 2002 ride was scheduled for Friday, July 26. On Monday, July 22, 2002, Officers Rob Etter and Stephanie Markins, of the Village of Hobart/Lawrence Police Department, were killed in the line of duty. They were parked on the side of the road when they were intentionally rammed by another vehicle.

It was unsure if we were going to be having the 2002 ride with this tragedy and the funerals of the two slain officers being held that week. Many of our members were close friends of the slain officers and intended on attending the funerals. When it was decided the funerals would be held on Saturday, July 23, 2002, the ride was on, but it had a new name:

The Etter-Markins Memorial Ride For Special Olympics

The total amount raised for the 2007 ride was $25,000.

Our goal is to have 250 motorcycles involved annually. This number may increase in the future depending on the popularity of this ride.

The 2008 ride is set for Saturday, July 19th, 2008. Be sure to mark your calendar for this must come event!!!

Registration begins at 9:00 am and the ride leaves at 11:00 am from the Oneida Travel Center at STH32 / STH29. This year’s ride will be a combination ride/poker run ending at Timeout Sports Bar in Ashwaubenon. Cost is $25 for driver (includes steak and T-Shirt), $10 for passenger (includes steak only).
